As we continue making progress on the Waterford project, ensuring the safety and protection of the existing home remains a top priority. With any addition, it’s crucial to safeguard the original structure while integrating new elements seamlessly. Today, we took important steps to reinforce the home and prepare the site for the next phase of construction.

One of the first tasks on today’s agenda was securing the cutout in the foundation. Since this opening will eventually connect the existing home to the new addition, it was essential to temporarily cover it with a sturdy plywood barrier. This ensures that the basement and home remain protected from the elements, debris, and any potential security concerns until the addition is fully enclosed. Taking these precautions allows us to move forward with confidence, knowing that the current structure remains safe throughout the build.

Meanwhile, the team at Brainard Excavating made significant strides in water management and foundation stability—two critical aspects of any successful construction project.

  • Perimeter Drainage & Sump Pump Pit Installation
Proper drainage is essential in preventing water accumulation and foundation issues. Brainard Excavating installed perimeter drainage and a sump pump pit, ensuring that any excess water will be efficiently redirected away from the foundation. These systems are crucial for maintaining a dry, stable environment inside the home and addition, especially in areas prone to moisture buildup.
  • Filling the Footings with Gravel
To further reinforce the foundation, they also filled the footings with gravel. This step enhances drainage, prevents settling, and creates a stable base for the next phase of construction. Properly compacted gravel allows for better support and longevity, helping to prevent future structural concerns.

With these essential steps complete, we’re now in a strong position to continue building out the addition. Each milestone brings us closer to transforming this home while maintaining the highest standards of quality and durability.
