The question of the day is what is the best flooring to use in a bathroom? When choosing flooring for your bathroom, it’s always a good idea to focus on finding a material that is not only attractive and fits your style but is also durable. There certainly is a significant difference between bathroom flooring and the flooring that you can use in other rooms of your home. In essence, bathroom flooring should be as waterproof as possible. This is due to the fact that water can easily splash from the sink, the toilet can overflow, and steam from the shower mists over the bathroom floor whenever someone takes a shower.

Let’s just face it, your bathroom will be wet on a regular basis. It just so happens that water damages certain types of flooring. The good news is that there are a few types of bathroom flooring to choose from that will withstand the water, and also enhance the design of your space. The standard choice in bathroom flooring is ceramic and porcelain tile. Both materials are waterproof and mimic the look of more expensive materials. Ceramic and porcelain tile are very similar. The main difference is that porcelain tiles are made from a more refined clay that’s fired at a higher temperature.

In essence, that makes porcelain tile less porous and more durable. Both types of bathroom tile are available in a wide variety of colors,  shapes, sizes, and textures. The best flooring to use in a higher-end bathroom is natural stone. It’s both attractive to the eye and durable, and provides a luxurious touch. Natural stone bathroom flooring is only waterproof when it’s sealed. Softer stones like limestone and travertine need to be resealed every couple of years. However, harder stones, like granite and marble can be resealed every five years give or take. Natural stone bathroom floors will raise the value of your home.

Many people enjoy the look of wood flooring, but wood and water don’t go well together so, it’s not an ideal bathroom flooring material. However, LVP luxury vinyl tile is a great replacement. In essence, LVP is vinyl flooring designed in planks that resemble traditional hardwood flooring options. Luxury vinyl is a specific type of vinyl flooring that is a lot different then the  old-school vinyl sheet flooring that was popular many years ago. The modern age luxury vinyl flooring is now able to closely mimic natural materials at a fraction of the cost.  LVP planks are available in narrow and wide styles as well.

LVT luxury vinyl tile works great for a less expensive ceramic and porcelain tile look. LVT is the same material as LVP, but comes in tile form as opposed to plank form. Many LVT floors even have seams for grout. Both LVT and LVP floors are constructed from layers of plastic, so they’re waterproof. That makes them an ideal flooring choice for any room in your house, especially bathrooms. LVT and LVP floors are designed to withstand moisture, heavy foot traffic, and plenty of scratches and spills.
